Army Long Service and Good Conduct, Victoria, 3343 Corporal G. Favell, 31st Foot.

 

George Favel (spelt Favell on medal) was born during 1835 in Hemingford Greg, St Ives, Huntingdonshire.

 

He enlisted during 1852 and was discharged after 21 years in May 1873.

 

His conduct was described as “Very good, he would have been in possession of 4 good conduct badge if not promoted. He is in possession of Crimean Medal and Clasp for Sebastopol, Turkish, Medal and Clasp for Taku, Medal for Good Conduct and Long Service.”

 

George Favel first served in the Crimean War earning the medal, with bar for Sebastopol and a Turkish Crimea. He then served in China during the 2nd Opium War, earning the China 1857 medal with Taku Forts 1860 bar, the roll notes he “served with commissariat”.

 

His overseas service was noted as: Crimea 1 years 1 month, Cape of Good Hope 4 months, East Indies 1 year 4 months, China 3 years 9 months, Mediterranean 10 years 2 months.
