Officially engraved: “26696 3rd CL: Mr GUNr T. Walsh. 10. Div: Cst Bde R.A.”

 

Master Gunner 2nd Class Thomas Walsh, was a long service artillery who rose to one of the most respected ranks in the Artillery over a 28 year career. Barely 11 years in he was already a Battery Sergeant Major and by 14 years he held the rank of 3rd Class Master Gunner.

Promoted Corporal 1st Nov 1872
Promoted Sergeant 9th May 1876
Promoted to 3rd Class Master Gunner, 18th May 1883.
Promoted 2nd Class Master Gunner, 29th December 1886

 

This medal was awarded whilst a 3rd Class Master Gunner wit the 10th Division Coastal Brigade of the R.A. whilst stationed in South Africa, awarded on 1st March 1886.

 

His discharge was taken at Capetown during his 15th year in South Africa, he chose to finally being his pension handing in his 3 months notice and left the service on 1st November 1895.

 

Total Service time was 28 years 35 days
