Awarded the M.B.E. in the London Gazette 8th June 1950, page 2782, the Kings Birthday Honours with the following recommendation:

“Orderly Room Quartermaster Sergeant of the Regimental Depot D.L.I.

ORQMS Davis has been a substantive WO II since 1941 and he will leave the Service after 26 years Service in July 1950. He has been recommended three times for the M.B.E. in 1941, 1942, 1943 respectively and has received two Certificate of Merit, the first from the GOC Home Force in 1942 and the second from the GOC in C. Northern Command in 1943. From the outbreak of War he served at Brancepath as Orderly Room Sergeant and ORQMS, with the Regimental Depot and 4 I.T.C. when the strength increased from 150 to over 2000. He remained as ORQMS with 68 PTC. Until it disbanded in 1948 and has been with the Regimental Depot ever since, During the whole of this period he has given tireless, devoted, loyal and able service. Nothing is too much trouble for him and he has worked extremely long hours. In his capacity as Chief Clerk in the Orderly Room during the War years he had to deal with a succession of inexperienced Officers acting as Adjutants and his tact and ability and high sense of duty under very trying conditions was above all praise, His conduct is exemplary and I cannot recommend too strongly that his unspectactular but nevertheless invaluable and sterling work should be recognised and rewarded.”
