Military General Service Medal 1793-1814, bar Corunna, G. Davis, Sergeant, Royal Artillery. With service papers, from Clones, County Monaghan, 20 years of service.

 

Officially impressed: “G. Davis, Serjt. Royal Arty.” Edge knock at 6 o’clock, some general wear.

 

George Davis was born in Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland. He was a Reed Maker by trade when he enlisted for service at Belfast for the Royal Artillery aged 18 on 13th September 1798.

 

He was discharged from service on 21st February 1819 due to the reduction of the Regiment and general reduction of the Army. He was awarded his pension of 1 shilling 6 pence per day.

 

He had served for 20 years 243 days, with 7 years as a Corporal and 3 years as a Sergeant. He served with the 7th Battalion at Woolwich, South London.

 

His obituary appears in the Tyrone Constitution 3rd March 1871:
