“Has shown sound leadership and coolness in action on all occasions in action during recent operations and has always amounted for a few of the enemy by steady and deliberate shooting which is all too rare.

In the raid on the enemy outpost Company near Afodu on 26th February 1941, he showed special initiative in collecting a party of Coy H.Q. Personnel and a few of those who had lost touch in the bush with their own sections and in leading them to the attack with such cool determination that he was in fact the first unit enter the enemy’s defended position.

In the attack on Afodu escarpment on 9th March 1941 he again distinguished himself in the attack on the enemy’s No 1 position. Very heavy fire having been opened by the enemy in the half light while his company was still forming up their was naturally some excitement and temporary loss of touch in the bush.
This N.C.O. on his own initiative moved cooly between sections and put them in touch with each other paying special attention to the younger recruits who were somewhat excited in their first meeting with this sort of fire.

His quiet and confident bearing had a very marked effect and was of untold value to his Company, I recommend him for the Immediate award of the Military Medal.”
