Description
Militia Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EDVII, 9802 Gunner Edward Robertson, Lancashire Royal Garrison Artillery, a Liverpudlian who saw long service in the local Militia.
Officialy impressed: “9802 Gnr. E. Robertson. Lancashire R.G.A. Mil.”
Awarded in August 1906, during his final year of Militia service, totalling 21 years.
Edward Robertson, was born during 1865 in Liverpool, Lancashire.
He spent most of his life working as a Dock Labourer for the White Star Line Company in Liverpool.
Whilst working for them he served with the Lancashire Artillery Militia in his spare time.
He first began with the Militia aged 22, during April 1887.
Throughout his career he never appears to have missed the yearly training.
During the Boer War, he is noted as having “Joined the Special Service reckon on the 5th June 1899 for service abroad with his unit.
He was embodied as a Gunner of the 6th Lancashire Artillery on 3rd May 1900
Disembodied on 11th October 1900.
He was re-engaged for Militia service only on 3rd July 1900.
Present at his training for 1901-2,3,4 before being discharged on 28th May 1905 at the end of his term of engagement.
However he once again signed up for another term, now about 40 years old, but still keen to continue, he was shortly afterwards during 1906, discharged as medically unfit.
