Militia Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EVII, 2582 Gnr C. Diaper, Suffolk R.G.A. Militia.

 

Charles Diaper was born during 1857 in St Mary Stoke, Ipswich, Suffolk.

 

He enlisted for service with the Militia at the age of 48 years 9 months on 1st July 1901, having already been a member of the Suffolk Artillery for over 26 years.
Discharged having competed his term of engagement on 30th June 1905.

 

For his long service he was awarded this medal, being announced in the Army Order 28th July 1905.

 

The East Anglian Daily Times of 14th June 1902, recalls at the First Annual Meeting of the Suffolk Boys Brigade appears to mention him saying there was: “Presented to Staff-Sergt Phillip Brunning and Charles Diaper each a certificate from the Royal Humane Society for saving the life of a little boy who had fallen into the Gipping last April.”
