Ashanti Star officially engraved in usual style as seen over the reverse arms confirmed on the roll for his service in the 4th Ashanti War between 29th December 1895 and 17th January 1896.

A rare and unusual combination, the named Ashanti Stars hardly ever appear and with a most unusual single bar Natal Q.S.A. medal which only a small detachment of the 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment earned this bar.

He died on service during the Boer War on 21st February 1900 of Enteric Fever at Mooi River.
