Natal Medal, 1906, no bar, Trooper J. Koning, New Hanover Reserves, scarce unit, Jacob Koning was born in Holland, The Netherlands and moved to New Hanover as a young Farmer and lived there the rest of his life.

 

Officially impressed: “TPR J. KONING, NEW HANOVER RES:” Only 75 men on the roll for this unit, all without bar.

 

Jacob de Koning, was born in Holland, the Netherlands and was a young Dutch farmer who came over to South Africa around the age of 20 to live in New Hanover.

 

He is first noted there as a member of the New Hanover Reserves during the war of 1906 in Natal, he was one of only 75 reservists to make up the New Hanover Reserves and earn the medal.

 

On 27th July 1915 he married Amalia Suanna Johanna Vermaak, from New Hanover, at Noodsberg, New Hanover, Natal.

 

He later remarried Johanna Catharina Viljoen on 5th June 1923 at Marquart, District of Senekal, where she was from, they moved back to his farm at Zandspruit, New Hanover, Natal.

 

He died at the age of 65 in Dalton, New Hanover.
