Description
Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EIIR issue, JX 283062 J. M. F. Caruana, A.B., H.M.S. St Angelo. A rare award to a Maltese Seaman
Officially impressed: “JX. 283062 J.M.F. Caruana. A.B. H.M.S. St Angelo.”
Some official corrections to naming as often seen with this issue.
The medal records that Joseph Maria Francis had actually been serving on HMS Ranpura, with St Angelo being struck through, the medal was issued on 9th March 1956, possibly he had just been posted to a ship posting on HMS Ranpura from St Angelo, which is a stone fort in Malta used by the Royal Navy.
Shortly after the award the ship took part in the operations in the Suez Canal Crisis of 1956.
