Naval Meritorious Service Medal, GV, 125093 H. Green, C.P.O. HMS “Hermione” impressed “Services During War”. Rare Admiral’s Bust Naval MSM for WW1 with service papers.

 

In superb unworn condition with toning.

 

Henry Green was awarded his Naval M.S.M. in the London Gazette of 24th June 1919.

 

Henry Green was born on 10th July 1867 in Droxford, Hants. He first enlisted with the Navy on 30th November 1883 as a 16 year old Boy 2nd Class on HMS St Vincent.

 

Promoted to Boy 1st Class on HMS St Vincent, 31st December 1884. Appointed as A.B. on HMS Constance 1st February 1888.
Promoted from A.B. to Leading Seamen with HMS Sans Pareil 20th June 1893. Promoted once again with HMS Sans Pareil to Petty Officer 2nd Class on 27th November 1894.
Promoted to Petty Officer 1st Class on HMS Excellent, 21st April 1896.
Promoted to Acting Chief Petty Officer with HMS Tamar on 15th September 1899.
Promoted to Chief Petty Officer with HMS Duke of Wellington II 15th September 1900.
Retired to his Pension on 1st October 1905 following 22 years service. joining the Royal Fleet Reserve.

 

His retirement was the interrupted on 2nd August 1914 at the age of 47 when he was brought back to the Royal Navy as Chief Petty Officer with HMS Vernon.
Further WW1 service: HMS Hermione, 22nd September 1914 – 31st March 1915.
HMS Magpie, 1st April 1915 – 27th November 1915.
HMS Resourceful, 28th November 1915 – 31st December 1915.
HMS Hermione, 1st January 1916 – 9th December 1919.

 

Discharged back to his shore pension on 7th January 1920.
