New Zealand War Medal, undated reverse, 3854 William Haytock, 68th Foot, the Durham Light Infantry. 

 

Officially impressed: “3854 William Haytock 68th Foot”

 

Confirmed on the medal roll. The medal has been previously brooch mounted to the reverse, since removed leaving some evidence on the reverse.

 

The medal roll notes that he earned his medal for his service as a Corporal serving in New Zealand from 20th January 1864 until 28th March 1866.

 

The roll also mentions that he was discharged from the Army on 16th July 1866.

 

Prior to the war, William is shown on the 1861 Army Index as a Sergeant in the 68th Foot whilst stationed with them in Rangoon, Burma.

A William Haytock, was born during 1837 in Ashton Under Lyme, Lancashire.

 

He married Mary Alice Roscoe in Manchester on 20th May 1875.

 

He died in Salford, Lancashire during 1881.
