Description

Naval General Service Medal, EIIR, bar Near East, officially impressed: “E. S. Aldridge”. A rare civilian issue of the Naval General Service Medal for the Suez Crisis of 1956.

As a Civilian he was most likely employed with the Merchant Navy on one of the various Civilian Auxiliary Ships which were requisitioned to act as Troopships.

The best match for this man given his initials and name and connected to the Merchant Navy are of Edward Samuel Aldridge, born Simla, India during 1905 who as a career sailor with the Merchant Navy fought in WW2 and earned the 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star, Italy Star and 1939-45 War Medal.

He would have been by the time of the Suez Crisis about 51 years old and was possibly still at sea.
