Officer of the Order of the British Empire, O.B.E., 1st Type, hallmarked on pin for wear, British War Medal, Major T.E. Robertson, Royal Air Force and Royal Flying Corps.

 

Awarded the O.B.E. London Gazette 1st January 1919.

 

Did not appear to serve outside of England so likely only entitled to the British War Medal.

 

Thomas Edward Robertson was a wartime Major in the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force, he was a talented Electrical Engineer, as well as Patent Agent, who during the war was Mentioned in Despatches during December 1917, being also awarded the Premium Prize by the Royal Aeronautical Society of Great Britain.

 

Before the war he was a working in his practice as a Chartered Patent Agent, when he was commissioned with the Royal Flying Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant in April 1915 and posted to 2nd Aircraft Park as Assistant Equipment Officer.

 

By 24th March 1915 he was a Captain at South Farnbourough, as Officer in command of Rigging.
One year later he was Major, Park Commander in charge of the Aircraft Repair Park at No 2 Aeroplane Supply Depot.
The London Gazette 16th September 1916 lists him as Park Commander, made Temporary Major from an Equipment Officer.

 

He was responsible for: “Lecturing, Instructing Officers and Mechanics in theory of flight, construction of Aeroplanes, Instruments and Experimental Work, Modifications to engines and aeroplanes in the Field, Designing and making numerous engine and aeroplane parts.”
