Medal of the Order of the British Empire, in Military Issue, fitted case of issue by John Pinches of London, perfect example on ribbon pin and excellent condition.
In purple case of issue with “M” for Military in top corner, “O.B.E. Medal” in gilt lettering.
A scarce complete military issue, with military ribbon mounted as issued, and matching military box.
This unusual and short lived medal was established in June 1917 alongside the Order of the British Empire.
At first it was intended only for Civilian Recipients, but this variety for Military recipients was introduced in December 1918 mostly being awarded in connection to World War 1.
Less than 2,000 medals would be awarded in total before the decoration was discontinued in 1922, and replaced by the British Empire Medal, which would also be officially named around the rim unlike this medal.
