Permanent Forces of the Empires Beyond the Seas, Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, neatly named “Gnr W. Jackman R.C.H.A.”

Mounted for wear on old ribbon and mounting.

Rarely seen to Canadians, awarded to a member of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.

An unusually seen Long Service medal instituted in 1909, which was only awarded for 18 years of Long Service in the “Permanent Force” as active serving soldiers in any British Colony, whereas any member serving with the British Army would receive the regular Army LSGC medal.

At the time the Permanent Forces, known as the “Permanent Active Militia” was relatively small. During April 1914 the Permanent Active Militia had a full force of about 31110 soldiers and 684 horses. It only comprised of two cavalry regiment, the Royal Canadian Dragoons and Lord Stratchona’s Horse, alongside the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery and the Royal Canadian Regiment.
