Henry White was born in Highgate, Middlesex, London, circa 1883.

As a young man he had joined up with the Middlesex Regiment to fight in the ongoing war in South Africa.

His papers state his prior service before WW1 as: “Served 1 year Middlesex Regiment Militia, discharged by purchase in October 1902, Character Good”

When WW1 began he quickly presented himself at Islington to attest for service in the war on 31st August 1914, rejoining his old regiment.

He served with 2nd Battalion Middlesex Regiment from 30th September 1914 when he fought in France.

During this time he received a Gunshot wound to his right hand on 25th January 1915.
By 22nd February 1915 he was invalided back home.

Following his recovery he was posted to 5th Battalion on 28th July 1915 and continued his service at home.

By 19th May 1916 he was awarded his Silver War Badge and discharged from service to return to his Wife and children in Kentish Town, London.

According to his Medal Index Card he had made a claim to the 1914 Clasp to his star, but it was cancelled and he was found as ineligible.
