Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, Transvaal, South Africa 1902, 4874 Pte William Wilson, Durham Light Infantry.

 

A local from Jarrow, Durham, he was born circa 1869.

 

First attested for service with the Durham Light Infantry aged 24 having been a Labourer on 9th March 1893.

 

Saw the following service:

 

Home, 9th March 1893 – 9th December 1894
India, 10th December 1894 – 16th February 1902
South Africa, 17th February 1902 – 13th September 1902.
Home, 14th September 1902 – 25th January 1903.

 

During the Boer War, he had been on service on India with 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry. On Arrival in South Africa he was transferred to 1st Battalion, where he earned this medal.
