Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, 4964 Private C. Smith, 2nd Bn Berkshire Regiment.

 

Officially impressed: “4964 Pte C. Smith. Rl: Berks Regt”

 

Confirmed on the medal roll.

 

During the war, Private C, Smith died of Enteric aka Typhoid Fever at Pretoria on 22nd February 1901.

 

Yorkshire Post 5th March 1901 recalls that:

 

“DEATHS REPORTED, ENTERIC FEVER UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED

2nd Berkshire – 4964 C. Smith, Pretoria Feb 22.”
