Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, 2853 Pte William Yarham, 4th Bn Norfolk Regiment, attached to 2nd Bn, from Great Yarmouth.
Officially impressed: “2853 Pte W. Yarham. Norfolk Regt”
Confirmed on the medal roll, also earning a KSA with 2 bars.
William Walter Yarham, was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk circa 1877.
He originally joined the 4th (Militia) Bn of the Norfolk Regiment aged 17 on 23rd Jan 1894.
He remained as an active Militia man leading up to the war.
He was then mobilised from the Militia on 7th April 1900:
“Appointed to the 2nd Batt Norfolk Regiment under Section 14(2) Reserve Forces act on being called up for permanent duty with the Regular Forces.”
After his service with the “Regular Army” in the war he “Returned from South Africa and was disembodied on same date” of 7th September 1902.
However just as he had returned back home to Yarmouth and was disembodied from active service, he died on 25th September 1902, his papers noting “deceased”.
