Queen’s South Africa, 4 bars, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek, Belfast, 9153 Private W. Baker, 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade.
Officially impressed: “9153 Pte W. Baker. Rifle Brigade” Visible ghost dates to reverse.
Entitlement to the bars confirmed on the medal roll, which shows he served with 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade during the war.
Does not appear to be entitled to a King’s South Africa Medal for further service, possibly invalided home or died as he did not earn any further bars, his service seems to end at the Battle of Bergendahl (Belfast) in August 1900.
Nice and scarce combination of “Battle” bars to the Rifle Brigade.
