QSA, 4 bars, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal, 5812 Pte J.H. Siswick, Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment.

 

The only “Siswick” to serve in the Boer War.

 

Officially impressed: “5812 Pte J. H. Siswick W. Riding Regt”.

 

Entitlement to all 4 bars confirmed on the roll, serving with 1st Battalion West Riding Regiment throughout the war.

 

Attractive toning from storage.

 

James Henry Siswick was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire on 6th April 1876.

 

He attested for service with the local West Riding Regiment on 18th May 1898.

 

He saw the following service:

 

Home, 18th May 1898 – 28th Dec 1899
South Africa, 29th Dec 1899 – 5th October 1902
Home, 6th Oct 1902 – 17th May 1905
Army Reserve, 18th May 1905 – 17th May 1910.

 

After finishing his Army Service he returned home to Yorkshire, where he worked for many years as a Stoker.

 

When WW1 began, he remained at home, before joining up in 1916 arriving in France and serving with the Royal Flying Corps and later Royal Air Force.
