Description

Queen’s South Africa, 5 bars, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, 5561 Pte P. McGuire, Royal Irish Fusiliers.

 

Patrick McGuire was born during 1877 in Blantyre, Hamilton, Lanarkshire. He enlisted on 12th February 1896 for service with Princess Victoria’s Royal Irish Fusiliers.

 

His first overseas service was being posted to South Africa for the Boer War, arriving on 23rd October 1899.

 

He was dangerously wounded in action on 17th September 1901 and went missing in action, later noted as released.

 

Reported as amongst the missing, London Daily News 24th September 1901.

 

He was sent home arriving on 9th October 1901 and was discharged as medically unfit on 15th June 1902.
