Description
Queen’s South Africa Medal, 6 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Belfast, South Africa 1901, 3305 Pte Albert John Rimmington, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, Battle of Omdurman Veteran and returned for WW1.
An unusual combination of bars, did not earn a KSA or SA 1902 bar as he spent 5 months in Bermuda guarding Boer Prisoners before returning home in late 1901.
Officially impressed: “3305 Pte. A. Remmington, Rl Warwick: Regt.” Contact marking and some edge wear.
Shown on the medal rolls as “Remmington” as impressed, unusually issued the Sudan Medal and Khedive’s Sudan Medal bar Khartoum with the same service number but initial “W”
Albert John Rimmington was born during 1873 in Leicester.
Private Rimmington first attested for service aged 18 at Lowestoft for a 12 year period of engagement with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment on 6th June 1891. He had been a labourer and serving member of the 4th Battalion Norfolk Militia.
He saw the following overseas service:

Home from 29th October 1897
South Africa 3rd April 1900
Bermuda from 24th May 1901 until 31st October 1901
Home from 1st November 1901, 5th June 1902
Discharged on 5th June 1902, as having been found medically unfit for further service.
Returned with the Royal Engineers for WW1 service as he was in his 40s, appears to have served from late 1918 until 1919 and likely did not earn any medals.
He died during 1951 in Nottingham.
