Queen’s South Africa, no bar, British War Medal, Stoker Albert Rose, Royal Navy, aboard HMS Monarch during the Boer War.

 

Albert Rose was born on 9th August 1878 in Whaplode, Lincolnshire. He joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 14th April 1898 on HMS Pembroke II.

 

As the Boer War broke out he had joined HMS Monarch on 16th June 1900, spending a short time on HMS Doris between 12th January 1901 and 7th February 1901. He returned to HMS Monarch from 8th February until 19th June 1902.
After the war he was posted to HMS Thrust from 1st July 1902 until 31st January 1903.

 

He saw continued sea service on a number of ships before joining HMS St George on 6th August 1914 as the Great War began. Saw service on a number of ships during WW1, including HMS St George, Wallington, Pembroke II, Woolwich and Columbine, following the war he was discharged to the Royal Fleet Reserve on 19th April 1920.

 

For WW1 he was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medal Trio.
