Description
Queen’s South Africa Medal, bar Cape Colony, 2882 Private G. W. Curtis, 9th Lancers.
Officially engraved in Cavalry style: “2882 Pte. G.W. Curtis 9/Lcrs”
Very good condition.
Unusual single bar entitlement as a Casualty.
The Daily Telegraph on 4th July 1900 reports:
“The following are reported Dangerously Ill:
At Cape Town… 2882 Cpl G.W. Curtis 9th Lancers.”
It is unclear whether he survived or not, but his medal was issued as the sole entry on the medal roll page, confirming just the Medal and Clasp for Cape Colony.
