Description
Queen’s South Africa, no bar, Bronze Issue, 79 Muleteer Niaz Mahomed, Indian Transport Corps, Supply & Transport Corps. Should have earned 3 clasps but followers were disqualified.
Officially engraved in running script: “79 Multr Niaz. Mohamed. S&T Corps”
Issue confirmed on the medal roll of the Indian Transport Corps, this notes his service number as “R.P. 79” meaning he came from RawalPindi, judging from his name he would most likely be a Muslim
When the roll was originally submitted, the clasps that he should have been entitled to were declared as “Cape Colony, Orange Free State & Transvaal”, his officer writing “Bronze Medal Only and clasps if sanctioned”.
However, in the end it was decided that clasps were not to be given to these men, the roll later writing his medal was amongst a batch of “Bronze Medals sent by the General Officer Commanding South Africa to India for distribution” and writing “No clasps to be issued for these followers”.
