Officially impressed: “16 Tpr: F. Howell. Warren’s M.I.”
Correct on the roll where the 3 brothers name are all spelt “Howell”, but shown on the Nominal Roll as “Frederick Howells”
It appears the Howells family all joined the regiment, at the same time, William, Frederick and Pryce Howells all enlisted at the same time on 9th January 1901 for service, with consecutive service numbers of 15,16 and 17.
Frederick Howells was born during 1858 in Wales, to David and Janes Howells of Montgomery, Wales.
He married his wife Catherine Howells (nee Jones) in Welshpool, Wales, during 1877.
He emigrated to South Africa and had 5 sons and 2 daughters, 2 of whom fought in the Boer War at his side, by the time of his enlistment he was 43 years old when he attested for service with his sons William Frederick Howells and Pryce Howells.
His occupation was shown as “Landed Proprietor”
He died in Strand Street, Woodstock, Cape Town, South Africa aged 64 on Thurdsay 30th March 1922.
