Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, SA 1901, SA 1902, Civilian Clerk S. T. Rawnsley, A.S.C., and Middelburg Town Guard.

 

Samuel Temple Rawnsley was born in Leeds, England, during 1868. He ventured out from Yorkshire to South Africa and landed in Middelburg, where he married Catharina Theodora Enslin on 7th January 1893.

 

During the peace time he worked as a local Book Handler in Middleburg, as the Boer War began he served with the Middelburg Town Guard.

 

He later used his expertise as a Civilian Clerk, employed by the Army Service Corps to earn his medal and bars.

 

Born in Leeds, but he died as a South African National, having lived there over 50 years aged 79 years 11 months, a retired Merchant, on 1st September 1947, living in Mowbray.
