Mr Albert St Leger Smith, was born circa 1862.

When he was a young man living in Vryburg, working as a Merchant, he got married on 21st April 1886.

Marrying Miss Thalia Jacoba Bertha Johanna March, the same age as him, 24 years old, born in Amsterdam, Holland.

Sadly the marriage was a short one, they were in Maribago when she died on 12th August 1886.
On 18th November 1886, he also lost his 3 month old child.

During the Boer War, he served as a Private in the Kaffrarian Rifles.
He later transferred over to the Tembuland Mounted Rifle Club with service number 187 where he rose to the rank of Sergeant.

Its unclear if they are related, but the Captain in command of the Tembuland M.R.C. was a Capt F.J. Smith.
