Queen’s South Africa, 2 bars, Transvaal, South Africa 1902, 2405 Trooper William E. Haines, Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts. 

 

Officially impressed: “2405 Tpr W. Haines. Kitchener’s F.S.”

 

The medal has been abrasively cleaned at some time.

 

The medal roll notes that his “Medal and claps Tvl & 02 issued 4th Nov 1906 to Officer Commanding DDCT(?)”

 

According to his enrolment records:

 

William E Haines was born during 1874 in England.

 

He was a carrier by trade and enlisted into the 1st Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts on 27th May 1902 aged 28.

 

This was not his first time in the Army having seen former service with the “21st Middlesex”, which should be the “Finsbury Rifles” aka 21st Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Club.

 

His next of kin back home was his brother G.H. Haines of 8 The Avenue, Bruce Grove, Tottenham, London.
