Queen’s South Africa, 2 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, King’s South Africa, 2 bars, SA 1901, SA 1902, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, 825 Pte. W. Knight, 3rd Battalion the Queen’s Royal West Surreys, later Hampshire Regiment in WW1.

 

Queen’s South Africa named: “835 Pte W. Knight, Rl: Wt: Surrey Regt” (service number should read 825)
King’s South Africa named: “825 Pte W. Knight, The Queen’s”
Trio Named: “6741 Pte W. Knight Hamps: R.”

 

William Knight was born in Tralee, Cork, during 1882, he was working as a Groom, when he enlisted aged 17 years 10 months for service on 11th Oct 1899.

 

He served in the Boer War between 20th February 1900 until 31st March 1902 with the 3rd Battalion Royal West Surrey Regiment.

 

Joined the Hampshire Regiment on 17th January 1903.

During his service with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action and invalided home, being discharged from further service on 8th November 1915.
