Description

Queen’s South Africa Medal, 7 bars, Belmont, Modder River, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Belfast, King’s South Africa, 2 bars, SA 1901, SA 1902, 8416 Pte O.W. Burrows Coldstream Guards.

The Paardeberg bar is a tailor’s copy, he is otherwise entitled to all the other bars, the bars from Driefontein upwards have been removed to slot in the Paardeberg in the correct order, but the rolls do not indicate he was present but he does not appear to have agreed.

Some rubbing from wear to service number on both medals making it hard to read but the rest of the naming is clear with some light rubbing to the end of the naming where the medals would knock together.

Odessa William Burrows was a Carpenter born in Mattishall, East Durham, Norfolk during 1873. He joined the Coldstream Guards at London on 20th March 1891 aged 18.

He served at home for most of his service only going overseas to fight in the Boer War from 21st October 1899 until 20th July 1902, he was later discharged on 16th March 1903 having completed exactly 12 years service.
