Description

Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Natal Medal 1906, no bar, Corporal William Eadie, Umvoti Mounted Rifles, former Trooper 3rd Class SAC during Boer War.

 

QSA Officially impressed: “194 3rd Cl Tpr: W. Eadie. S.A.C.”
Confirmed on the medal roll awarded for service as 3rd Class Trooper with B Division SAC, he additionally earned the 1901 & 1902 clasp pair sent separately on another roll with the Northern Transvaal SAC, but they were never attached to the medal.

 

Natal officially impressed: “Cpl: W. Eadie, Umvoti Mtd. Rifles.”
Confirmed on the medal roll.

 

With a set of service records for the SAC, when he re-enlisted for service on 5th April 1906, during the “Zulu Rebellion” of 1906.

 

He was allowed a free discharge on 30th June 1906, which would account for his service as a Corporal in that period earning this Natal Medal.

 

William Eadies, was born on 5th June 1867 in Dunblane, Perthshire, Scotland.

 

He was a Butcher by trade, who served in the Boer War with the South African Constabulary with a total of 1 year 331 days service.

 

He re-enlisted in 1906, living in Lydenburg, for further SAC service, but was allowed a free discharge on 30th June 1906, to likely join the Umvoti Mounted Rifles who were advertising at the time for volunteers.

 

He said on his enlistment that he could, Ride, Shoot and Swim, and had previous Military Training in the S.A.C.

 

He stated in 1906 that he was been in South Africa 1906, so was likely recruited for the SAC during the Boer War, from their various recruiting offices all around the UK.

The 1881 Census, lists a 12 year old (Birth records however confirm he was born in 1867 not 1869) living in Dublane at Arnots Close, with his parents and siblings all born in Dunblane.
It also lists a 7 year old Mary Eadie.
