Description

Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, 2541 Corporal Albert Mills, 4th Militia Bn Norfolk Regiment, who was attached to the 2nd Norfolks on active service in the Boer War. 

 

Officially impressed: “2541 Corl A. Mills. Norfolk Regt.”

 

Polished, confirmed on the medal roll.

 

Albert Mills was born in St Martins, Norwich, Norfolk circa 1876.

 

He first joined the Militia of the 4th Norfolks aged 17 working as a Hawker on 28th December 1892.

He would be present at all the yearly trainings from 1893-1899.

On 1st April 1899 he was promoted to Corporal.

 

At the time of the Boer War, he chose to enlist after the outbreak of the war on 3rd April 1900 with the “Militia Reserve”.

 

He was during the war “Called to Serve on Mobilisation of Reserve” on 7th April 1900 being “Appointed to the 2nd Battalion Norfolk regiment under Section 14(2) Reserve Forces Act on being called up for permanent duty with the Regular Forces.”

 

Following active service he was disembodied on 17th July 1901, and was discharged at the end of his terms of engagement on 27th December 1902.
