Description

Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, 4287 Pioneer Sergeant A. Mann, Royal Fusiliers, who died of Dysentery at Ladysmith on 13th March 1900

Officially impressed: “4287 Pr: Sgt: A. Mann, 2nd Rl: Fus:”

Confirmed on the medal roll.

Unusual to see named to a Pioneer Sergeant, good combination bars having fought through the Relief of Ladysmith right before he died.

Pioneer Sergeant A. Mann took part in the hard fought Relief of Ladysmith Campaign with the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), including the Battle of the Tugela Heights from 14-27th February 1900.

Following the successful relief of the town by 27th February 1900, he died about 3 weeks later whilst still at Ladysmith from Dysentery on 13th March 1900.
