Queen’s South Africa, 4 bars, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek 3006 Private Robert Wade, 2nd Scottish Rifles, wounded in action at Potgieter’s Drift 05/02/1900 and then Mentioned in Despatches. 

 

Officially impressed: “3006 Pte. R. Wade. Scottish Rifles” Only light wear overall.

 

Bar entitlement confirmed on the roll, medal as issued, with further entitlement to the King’s South Africa with both clasps.

 

Wounded in Action at Potgeiter’s Drift on 5th February 1900 during the Relief of Ladysmith.

At this action, the 2nd Scot Rifles sustained 2 men Killed in Action and Pte Wade amongst 26 men wounded in action.

 

Mentioned in Depatches in General Buller’s Despatch of 30th March 1900 for the Relief of Ladysmith operations, later announced in the London Gazette of 8th February 1901.

 

One of only 8 Officers and 14 Men recommended for the operations, with 2 men being recommended the DCM, the operations include the famous battle of “Spion Kop” where the 2nd Scottish Rifles drove off the Boers with a fine Bayonet Charge.
