Queen’s South Africa, 5 bars, Territorial Force Efficiency Medal, EDVII, 8215 Sapper William Edward Jeffrey, 1st Newcastle on Tyne Royal Engineer Volunteers in Boer War, later Northumberland D.R.E.
QSA officially impressed: “8215 Sapper W. Jeffrey Rl: Engrs:” date clasp pair loose on ribbon.
TFEM officially impressed: “197 Cpl W.E. Jeffrey. Nth’d Bn D.R.E.”
The medals have been “proudly polished” to the obverse sides, otherwise not mistreated with no edge knocks etc just polished.

William Edward Jeffrey, was born in Hightown, Cheetham Hill, Manchester during July 1878.
While he was living in Newcastle on Tyne as a Printer and Apprentice for the last 3 years to Harris Jesmond, he attested for service as a Volunteer on 13th February 19091 with the 1st Newcastle on Tyne Royal Engineer Volunteeers.
It was with this unit that he went over to South Africa, on arrival he was attached for service to the 12th Field Company R.E. who were stationed at Barburton and Harrismith.
He returned home after the end of the war on 31st July 1902.
Straight after that he signed up for further service with the Newcastle-on-Tyne District Company, Northumberland Royal Engineers, Territorial Force, later becoming an original member of the Territorials when it was formed in 1908, serving from 11th April 1908 until 10th April 1911.
He received his TFEM medal in 1909 for his long service.
1911 Census lists him as a House Painter and Paper Hanger in Chopwell, Durham.
