Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1901, 761 Private William Ryan, Uitenhage Volunteer Rifles, scarce named to this Colonial unit.
Officially impressed: “761 Pte W. Ryan. Uitenhage V.R.”
Confirmed on the medal roll for all 3 clasps which notes his first name was William.
Good preserved condition, toned, one edge bruise.
The town of Uitenhage, now known as Kariega, is in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, situated right next to Port Elizabeth (Now Gqeberha).
During the Boer War the town would house a Boer Concentration Camp of 140 acres, the authorities being attracted by the closeness of the water at Port Elizabeth.
