Queen’s South Africa Medal, 4 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1902, 6874 Pte George Absolon, Volunteer Company, Norfolk Regiment, a native of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

 

Officially impressed: “6874 Pte G. Absolon. Vol: Coy Norfolk Regt”

 

Unusually named to a Volunteer Company.

 

George Chalmers Absolon was born circa 1882 in Great Yarmouth Norfolk.

 

He was working as a Drapers Assistant, having been an apprentice for 4 years to Mr R.H. Veale, and a member of the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Norfolk Regiment, when he attested for service with the Norfolk Regiment on 21st January 1902.

 

He was posted overseas to take part in the Boer War from 3rd March 1902, returning home on 31st July 1902. During this time he served with the Volunteer Company of the Norfolk Regiment.
