Edward Samuel Littlejohns was born on 2nd June 1882 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The son of former Londoner, Edward Smith Littlejohns and Georgina Francis Littlejohns.

His father had died at Oudtshoorn aged 40 during 1896.

As a young man he took part in the Boer War, where he saw service as a Bugler in the Oudtshoorn Town Guard.

He would also see additional service in the tiny unit, the Malmesbury Town Guard, who only had 61 men, he happens to be the only man in the unit crossed off the medal roll, as he already had a claim to the medal with the Oudtshoorn Town Guard.

He married on 20th June 1907 at Witwatersrand, Johannesburg to Amy Elizabeth Brine.

He returned to service in World War 1 serving in the S.A.C.S. R.E. as a Serjeant, this lengthy abbreviation stands for South African Corps of Signals Company Royal Engineers.

Edward later died on 17th March 1946.
