Queen’s South Africa, 6 bars, Belmont, Modder River, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Belfast, King’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, SA 1901, SA 1902, 8814 Pte T. Murdoch, Scots Guards.

 

Surname spelt ‘Murdoch’ on QSA and “Murdock” on KSA.

 

Thomas Murdoch was born in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland during 1870.

 

At the age of 20 he enlisted with the Scots Guards at Hamilton having been a Weaver.

 

He was discharged on 1st December 1902 after the end of the Boer War having ended his first 12 year period of engagement.

 

All bars confirmed as entitled, having taken part in the early battles of the war with the Guards Brigade, he arrived with the very first contingent from 21st October 1899.
