Description

Royal National Lifeboat Institution Long Service Medal, officially named to M. Browning, in fitted case of issue, made by Worcestershire Medal Service.

A scarce modern issue medal instituted in 2020.

This new medal features the bust of Sir William Hillary, the founder of the RNLI, and was first established in 2020, being awarded for having done 20 years of service with RNLI, either a crew member of support volunteer, additional clasp can be awarded for further service up to 60 years.

The design of the bust is signed by the late Allan Gairdner Wyon (1882-1962), which looks to be the same bust design that had been issued on the RNLI Lifesaving Medal since 1938.

As of 2024, the RNLI has recently celebrated 200 years of lifesaving, to date they have saved the lives of 146,000 people, in 2023, they launched their lifeboat 9,192 times and saved 269 lives.

Each day they aid an average of 29 people, as they say on their website as you are reading this: “There’s most likely a lifeboat crew out right now saving lives.”
