Description

Special Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EDVII, 2082 Gunner J. Jordan, Wicklow Royal Field Artillery.

 

Officially impressed: “2082 Gnr: J. Jordan. Wicklow R.F.A.”

 

Awarded during 1908, Army Order 279.

 

John Jordan, sometimes spelt “Jordon” was born in Coolmanagh, Hacketstown, County Carlow, circa 1859.

 

On 13th May 1893 he attested for service with the 8th Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, having already served: “5 Years 46 days with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 1st Class Army Reserve for 6 years 39 days.”

 

On 29th June 1894 he attested for the Militia Reserve, and re-engaged with the 8th Btn KRRC Militia Reserve on 3rd June 1896.

 

He first transferred to the Wicklow Artillery on 23rd March 1899.

 

He “Joined the Special Service Section for service abroad with his unit” on 24th May 1899.

 

Re-engaged for Militia only on 19th June 1900.

 

Re-engaged for further Militia service again on 24th April 1908 joining the “Special Reserve” which had just been formed.

 

He was finally discharged after a further 4 years term of engagement on 1st May 1912.
