St John’s Ambulance Brigade Medal for South Africa 1899-1902, Bronze, 931 Pte C. Berry, Colne Division.

 

During the Boer War he served with the Natal 15th General Hospital, also earning the Queen’s South Africa, 4 bars, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902.

 

His send off from Lancashire was noted in an article in the Lancashire Evening Post 30th March 1900 titled “Lancashire Ambulance Men for the Front”:

 

“…Last night three members of the Colne Ambulance Corps – Messrs C. Berry, Jas Drewery, and C. Duerden, left Colne for service at the front. They were given a most hearty send-off, and were the recipients of a number of suitable presents.”
