Sudan Medal, Khedive’s Sudan, bar Atbara, 2411 Drummer, Musician and Pte George William Blake, 1st Lincolnshire Regiment, from Calne in Wiltshire.

 

Sudan Medal officially engraved: “2411 Pte G. W. Blake. 1/Lin: R.”
Khedive’s Sudan engraved: “2411 Musn G. Blake 1. Linc. Rgt.”

 

George William Blake, was born during 1874 in Calne, Wiltshire.

 

Attested for service as a Boy on 10th September 1889 aged only 15. Appointed quickly as a Musician with 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment on 25th October 1889.

 

When he was discharged at the end of terms of engagement as Gosport on 29th November 1902.

 

He was said to be 28 years old, 5 foot 6, with fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair and a Musician.

 

His conduct was: “Exemplary, a Good Clean Sober Man.”

 

Special qualifications: “He has been a Bandsman for 13 years and played the Clarinet Very Well.”

With his discharge he moved to Windsor, in 1911 he was married and working as a Railway Porter, living at 9 Church Cottages, Clewer, Windsor, Berkshire.

 

He had married Elizabeth Louisa Taylor during 1907 in Windsor.

 

He died in Windsor during 1927, being buried in Clewer Village.
