Territorial Efficiency Medal, 36 Private William Henry Spiller, 6th Bn Devonshire Regiment. 

 

Officially impressed: “36 Pte W.H. Spiller. 6-Devon. R.”

 

William Henry Spiller

 

Enlisted into the Territorial Force on 1st April 1908.

 

Served during World War 1 with the 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment with service number 30640.

 

Discharged from the Army on 5th August 1918, being issued a Silver War Badge KR 392 (XVI), meaning he was no longer physically fit for war service.

 

He was awarded this medal for his part time service in the Territorial Force in Army Order 66, during 1923.

 

Address for war pension shown as 16 Raleigh Pilton, Barsntaple, North Devon.

 

1921 Census shows address as 6 Raleigh Cottages, Pilton, Barsntaple, Devon.

 

William Henry Spiller was born in Barnstaple, Devon on 9th August 1888.

 

He was a French Polisher for Shaplan and Petters Ltd Cabinet Makers as of 1891.

 

married to Rosetta Spiller (Born 1891 in Barnstaple).

 

1939 Register shows him in Barnstaple working as a Lavatory and Parking Attendant.

 

He went on to live a long life and died in his home town of Barnstaple, during 1976.
