Proceeded overseas for service in WW1 as Sergeant No 705, with 207 Anti Air Section.

 

Formerly regimental service number 705, Devonshire Royal Garrison Artillery.

 

Awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in August 1923.

 

Edgar Albert Stephen Speare, was born during 1894 in Stoke Damerel. Devon and baptised in Plymouth, the son of Edwin Ernest and Mary Elizabeth Speare, his father was a Naval Pensioner.

 

Interestingly his father, who had first joined the Royal Navy in 1884, returned for service as a Chief Ships Cook throughout WW1, he was about 49 years old when the war began.

 

Edgar later died in Plymouth during 1964.
