Territorial Force War Medal, British War and Victory Medal, 200417 Pte Arthur Ernest Shipway, 1/4th Wiltshire Regt. The 1/4th Wilts fought at the Battle of Megiddo, the climactic battle of the Palestine Campaign.

Arthur Ernest Shipway was a lifelong Wiltshireman. Born there in Swindon, Wilts on 18th March 1894/5.

 

Shown as wounded in action on the War Office Daily List No 5571, dated 21st May 1918.

 

At the time the 1/4th Wilts were part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force.

 

Of particularly note they fought at the Battle of Megiddo.

 

Disembodied after the end of the war on 17th July 1919.

 

After the war he came back to the family home, shown in 1921 as a Smiths Striker for Great Western Railway.

 

He married Ada Emily Hall during 1923 in Swindon.

 

He died in Wiltshire on 26th August 1963.
