Description
Turkish Crimea Medal, Pte William Grimson, 55th Westmoreland Regiment of Foot, fought at Alma, Inkermann and Sebastopol.
Contemporarily engraved: “William Grimson 55th Regt”
Sardinian Issue striking with double ring suspension.
“His character has been that of a good soldier he has been twice tried by court martial, he has been 9 entries in the Regimental Court Martial Book.
He is in possession of four good conduct badges, He was present at the Battle of Alma, the repulse of the sortie at Inkermann on October 26th 1854, The battle of Inkermann and the Siege and Capture of Sebastopol.
He has received and is in possession of the Crimean Medal & 3 Clasps and the Turkish War Medal.”
William Grimson from Thinton in Loddon, Norfolk, attested for service aged 18 & 6 months at Norfolk for the 55th on 2nd November 1841.
He would see 21 years 17 days service, claiming his pension after his 21 years were completed.
He say 7 years 10 months service overseas.
1 Year 5 months in China, for this service not sure if he was there in time to fight in the China 1842 war as a medal is not mentioned on his record.
